Established in 2012, The Ma'ine Kweenz, (formerly known in West Auckland as the 'Kelston Kweenz'), have been a strong sisterhood of like-minded Fa'afāfine & Pasifika/Māori Trans-identifying young people; all who have shared a common passion for performing the Siva Samoa and other Pasifika Cultural Performances.

Within the last decade, we have contributed our talents and skill-set towards local Arts spaces, Theatre, the Aotearoa Ballroom Scene, and a number of Community Events, Festivals & Projects that have provided pathways and safe spaces for the wider MVPFAFF+ communities.

This year, we have collectively decided to participate in the Annual 'Miss Samoa Fa'afāfine' 2023 Beauty Pageant, hosted by the 'Samoa Fa'afāfine Association' (SFA), held in Apia, Samoa, towards the end of this year. Over the last few years, we have been blessed to establish a relationship with the SFA in Samoa, and by honouring this, we are proud to announce one of our own who has performed in Samoa with us, and has supported former Kweenz in previous pageants, representing the Ma'ine Kweenz this year, she will be vying for the title of the 'Miss SFA' 2023.

Samora Kake. (she/her);
28 years of age; NZ-Born Samoan & Māori; Raised in West Auckland; Villages (Maternal): Villages: Vaovai/Fagaloa/Falevao (Upolu) AND Fogatuli/Sasina (Savai'i)(Paternal): Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hau (Hapu), Te Tai Tokerau.

Proudly/Culturally identifies as Fa'afāfine, Takatāpui, Whakawāhine, and Trans-femme POC; formerly & currently active with the Ma’ine Kweenz for over 10 years at various events in NZ and abroad.

Samora currently serves as a Coordinator, Health Promoter & Community Educator for Sexual Health (through Auckland Sexual Health Services' | Education Unit). She holds a Master of Social Work (Professional) and a Bachelor of Arts (Pacific Studies & Sociology majors) via the University of Auckland. Samora has been fiercely supporting our vulnerable communities within the youth sector and within primary mental health throughout her career, however her heart and passion for serving the Rainbow communities particularly here in Auckland, continues to be her ongoing commitment and service.

When Samora is not in her line of work, she maintains a humble connection to both her Samoan and Māori families and Church. She has also been recognized within the 'Aotearoa Ballroom Scene', as a visible femme queen of '007' experience, aswell as walking alongside her sisters in the 'House of Kweenz'.

Samora understands the value of what it means to be a fa'afāfine growing up in Aotearoa NZ, sharing in the experiences of many generations of NZ-BORN Pasifika Youth with parents of the 60s, 70s & 80s migration. For her to compete in this year's Miss SFA Beauty Pageant representing the Ma'ine Kweenz, means that this experience is a salute to the ancestral land that her grandparents once lived on, and a celebration of who we are and where we are as fa'afāfine, today.

Your financial assistance and support throughout this fundraising campaign, will aid us in taking Samora to Samoa to represent not only herself and the Ma'ine Kweenz, but most importantly her family and her community here in Aotearoa NZ. Our goal of reaching NZD15,000.00 will assist us in providing all of Samora's garments and creative attires, and all other logistical costs and fees that requires financial assistance.

Ngā mihi nui,

The Ma'ine Kweenz
