This summer I have been given the amazing opportunity to volunteer with the charity Chalkboard Kenya. They have asked me to be part of their first teaching internship placement which I am very excited about!
I will be spending 6 weeks volunteering as a maths teacher in Mamas Orphanage in a small town called Busia in Kenya. These 6 weeks will be very intense as I will be living and volunteering in the orphanage which currently houses 130 children. Also, as one of the first teachers to do this placement I will have responsibiltiy in shaping the curriculum for the school.
I am looking forward to experiencing life in Kenya and to teaching the kids in the orphanage, it will be a challenge at times I'm sure but such a great opportunity.
The total money I need to pay for this placement is £850; half of which goes straight to the orphanage for maintenance, food and water, the other half goes to my accommodation which will be a section of the orphanage and also my food and water.
I will be paying for my flights seperately but any money I get after the £850 will be spent on resources for the school in the orphanage. They currently don't have many resources; some notebooks, chalk and pencils. Therefore, if I was able to raise a little extra money I would love to bring out some extra resources.
I appreciate every penny which is donated and if you wish to follow where your money is going I will be setting up a blog so you can see life in the orphanage and how your money has helped the kids lives.
