Dear friends, acquaintances, and all who wish us well,

With pride, we present a part of our lives and a touching story unfolding in our family. Get to know us, understand our world, and join us on a journey that will bring a brighter future to our dear 12-year-old daughter, Špela.

Every day, our family faces challenges, yet it is filled with love, joy, and a passion for life. Our beloved daughter Špela, who is completely blind, non-verbal, and coping with muscular dystrophy, is a strong and inspiring part of our everyday lives. As a family, we strive to provide her with a life full of love, laughter, and as little pain as possible.

In this collective effort, we have decided to welcome a special member into our family - a service dog. We are delighted to have already acquired a dog, whom we've named Mimi, a wonderful poodle whose presence already enriches our lives. With his help, we also aim to ease the daily life of our daughter. However, we need your assistance to successfully train Mimi.

Mimi will improve the quality of our daughter's life by detecting epileptic seizures and potentially saving her life. He will also help us (the parents) to be calmer and able to rest.

Špela has been living with a disrupted biorhythm for seven years, as she typically sleeps from 4:00 PM until around 1:00 AM. Despite our constant care, there is a fear that a possible epileptic seizure during the night could go unnoticed and develop into a life-threatening situation for Špela. Mimi will be crucial in alerting us to these attacks and enabling us to have more peaceful sleep, which is invaluable for us and our family. We want to create conditions for a safer and happier life for our daughter.

Our exceptional instructor, Maja Golob, will lead Mimi through his educational journey with her expertise, dedication, and love for animals, preparing him to become a faithful companion and assistant to our daughter.

Maja has extensive experience in training dogs dating back to 1980. Since 2004, she has been devoted to training guide dogs for the blind and assistance dogs in Slovenia. She is an instructor for obedience, rally obedience, tactical searching, and service dogs. She has also obtained certificates in the USA.

Specializing in working with assistance dogs for physically disabled, diabetics, deaf individuals, gluten detection, epilepsy, allergens, autism, PTSD, and other special needs, Maja has trained approximately 50 dogs in Slovenia and an additional 30 in America (some still in the training process) for various purposes.

Maja will teach Mimi to detect epileptic seizures in Špela and alert us to them. She will also teach him all necessary skills, including stability in urban environments, hygiene in the home, desensitization to other animals, and obedience in different situations.

The K9 Service Dog Training Association, with which we collaborate, is located at Idrijski log 4c, 5274 Črni vrh nad Idrijo. For more information, you can contact them at +386 41 473 314. The funds raised through this campaign will be directly allocated to the association for Mimi's training.

With your support and donations, we aim to raise the remaining 3,000 EUR needed to train Mimi and ensure that he becomes a loyal companion and assistant to our daughter, Špela. Together, we will create conditions for a safer and happier life for our Špela.

We thank you for every kind word, shared information, and donation that will help fulfill this heartfelt story. Thank you for being part of our community, making every day count.

On this occasion, I would also like to thank the sponsors and donors for food and assistance in purchasing equipment for Mimi: Chicopee & Genesis Slovenia and the Žverca store.

  • Hi Sir / Medam We are deeply saddened and overwhelmed. Last night (7/5/2024). Around 12/1, wild elephants (about 40/45) came and broke many crosses and rosary prayer gombos at our shrine. This fierce elephant was also coming towards our house. But with the help of people we managed to chase. We will be very happy if any kind hearted person helps us.🙏🙏🙏
