Milo OUR Magnificent was struggling to move on Friday, 25 May 2018. We thought someone had injured him somehow. I immediately checked for a wound but found nothing. He would growl when we touched his back. I just tried to keep him calm and still. He was shaking from pain by the Saturday afternoon and decided a vet visit was urgently due. Saturday, 26 May 2018, we took him to the vet. 18h00 the vet told us that our 6 year old Milo has IVDD. This is Intervertebral Disc Disease. Doc administered 2 injections and gave a week's supply of meds and requested us to visit again in 7 days. He told us from here on out, it could get better or worse. Euthanasia was not mentioned as an option but all option I was given was an operation of R18, 000. For those of you that know us, our companions are our fur kids! I knew I would do whatever it takes to get Milo a happy and a quality life again. Our hearts sank Sunday morning when he was paralyzed from the waist down. He lost all bladder contol and was slooshing his legs behind him all over the house. This didn't deter him. He was in no pain and soon found a way to maneuver where he needed to go. Ignorance let me allow him. Plenty of research that day made me wiser. Realizing that R18, 000 is far above our reach, I have opted for the 8 week Crate Rest method. I've ordered and received his Health Bed and am currently awaiting his crate to arrive next week. Today is the 2nd of June, 7 days after his diagnosis. And everyday's research brings more information. I now know the chances of him walking again are slim to none, but my baby needs and deserves a life like he had a week ago, and I'm determined to give it to him. A bit about Milo: he has a wife, Molly and they have a baby, Roxy. Milo and Roxy are the best play-buddies ever. He is so lovable and greets everyone with kisses and sniffs. He is very protective of his human family and utilizes 3/4 of a queen size bed.. I have no idea how. Milo is 6 years old and has an abundance of love to give anyone. Milo will be on Crate Rest for 8 weeks (currently in a Cat Crate) but he will need doggy diapers, vet visits and medications. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Maybe, just maybe, we can reach the operation amount.... If there is still a chance. Otherwise, to give a quality life is my aim. It's doable but really only with your help. Thank you in advance.
