Hi, my name is Geraldine. Today I am here to tell you about a young man who came into my life very unexpectedly at the age of 19. Needless to say, I fell head over heels in love with him. Skip to the year 2021 and we are both now 25 years old. Life has been tough these last couple of years, especially on PJ. Before we get to his story, let me tell you a bit more about myself. I am a qualified teacher, now in my second year of teaching. I studied at North-West University. From the get-go I struggled to pay my university fees, always worrying where the money would come from, as every time I applied for a bursary, I got denied. Now this is where the story of PJ comes in. We met in 2015 and started dating in 2016. As a young couple, we did not have much. I was studying full time and he had just started a new job. Because I was studying full time, he took the full responsibility to take care of rent, etc. My 1st year of studying came to an end and I still owed a hefty amount before I could register for my second year. PJ pulled through and took out a personal loan to help me pay for my studies. This was difficult, as we were only living off of his salary. At the end of my 3rd year, we were faced with the same dilemma. PJ asked everyone who would be willing to help, for help. At last, his close friend’s parents were willing to help us pay the outstanding fees. If it weren’t for PJ and his determination to get someone to help us, I would not know what we would have done. He helped me to get back on my feet and that is exactly what I am trying to do for him. It is my time to support him and make sure that he achieves his goals, because if he had not surrendered his own studies for me, I would not know where I would be today.

PJ has had this dream of becoming a Millwright since he was a boy in high school. He is a hard worker and puts his everything into his work. He is currently working as a millwright apprentice and each and every day he surprises me with the new things he has learned. During the last 2 ½ years he has been working full time and studying part time to complete his N courses. He has managed to complete his N1 and N2 and he is currently busy with his N3. As the year is nearing an end, I want to help raise funds for him so that he can go and qualify. We have managed to save R27 000 and we still need to raise R13 000 in order to have the full amount of R40 000 (which is what the Millwright assessment and Trade Test will cost in total). He will be doing his Trade Test at The SAJ Competency Training Institute in Alberton after his assessment (this is to determine whether he will have to have training for six or eight weeks before his Trade Test). It would be a dream come true for him to finally qualify as a Millwright because he would also be the first one in his family to have obtained a red seal qualification.

Please help me to help him. An investment in knowledge, pays the best interest – Benjamin Franklin.

  • Go getter. Always was always will be. Extremely hard working. Even in the hungry face of death you fought back with meaning.
