Campaign Story
This fundraiser is inspired by our little one who continues to fight every day.
June 1, 2022, one of the happiest days in a life relatively young couple. This was the day that the Lord blessed us and told us that we were pregnant despite being initially diagnosed as infertile. Finally, we will be having a little one who we prayed for every night.
We thought that our pregnancy would be easy just like other couples, just prepare as much as you can and wait for the little one to come out at 9 months, we were so wrong.
After being diagnosed with Placenta Previa, in and out of the High-Risk Pregnancy Unit for at least 3 times, advised to bed rest for 2 months, hospitalization for a month straight, multiple bleeding episodes and multiple infections. We were slapped in the face with reality of how unprepared we were. Without family and friends, I don’t know how we would have made it through.
Now we were faced with a much bigger hurdle, our son Lope Miguel, as we lovingly nicknamed him “Miggy” who was born premature. Nov 3, 2022, at 9:30am was when we first laid eyes on him. A small little boy who cried as loud as he can got me crying my eyes out in the delivery room. Born 27 weeks and 4 days at only 1035g, slim and slender our little angel was born. This was the happiest day of our life, yet it had a gloomy condition.
We were not able to hold our baby boy. He had to be incubated immediately with O2 intubation to help him breath. As the doctors and nurses were trying to explain everything to me, it honestly was all a blur, I could only focus on how beautiful and how fragile he was.
It hurt so bad that we couldn’t help Miggy. We felt so guilty on why he is in this position. We wish we could swap places to spare him from his struggles. We were advised that our son “Miggy” will be in hospital care for around 8-10 weeks, that would be until January 2023. We would visit him every day to make him feel that he is not alone. Make him feel that we love him so much.
As of writing he has already gone through so many blood extractions for testing, various IV lines, several X-rays, Ultrasounds, Blood Transfusions, and 24/7 O2 Intubation ventilator supply. Episodes of Pneumonia and breathing issues that were on and off. He was administered with an array of antibiotics and was given multiple steroids to help him breath better. He would have to go through so much just for him to survive but we know that he is a fighter.
Our little one continues to be strong, hence we lovingly coined a hashtag for him “#Miggystrong”. Because our little Miggy is so strong.
Hospital bills added up very quickly. Especially for all the procedures, equipment, doctors, and the special hospital care he would be needing. Since he was born last Nov 3, 2022, his hospital bill has ballooned to over 1 million Pesos and growing each day and we do not have a clear end date in sight.
Your donations would really help us with Miggy’s hospital expenses. They would go to the ff:
- NICU Room and Board – Php4,755 per day
- Cardiac Monitor – Php3,144 per day
- Mehanical Ventilator – Php3,666 per day
- Supplemental Blood – Php6,603 (4 times)
- Humming Vue Tubings – Php24,850 (1 time)
- Drug Therapy: Compounded TPN – Php4,468 (multiple times)
- Drug Therapy: Fluconazole – Php9,294 (multiple times)
- Professional Fees of Php379,130 (as of Dec 6, 2022)
Just to name a few.
The estimated average daily hospital cost is around Php50 thousand. Given this, our conservative estimates our total cost would be around Php2.5M – Php3M. Our savings have already been exhausted by paying for my wife’s delivery, and a few small payments to Miggy’s account. Our salaries would only cover so much.
We have exhausted all avenues to be able to raise funds for Miggy and are now turning to all of you kind-hearted people to help us get through this financially.
Any assistance would be really appreciated and would greatly help us out.
We also ask to include our Baby Miggy in your prayers, and we thank you in advance for your donations in this difficult time. May you enjoy the upcoming Holidays!
You may donate through the following accounts, and we would appreciate if you can chat us through our FB account Bogge Tiu Barrera | Facebook or Kath Ragay-Barrera | Facebook to let us know of your donation.
