Midwifes for Kenya

I have never realised the magic and sacrality behind Birth until I became a mother myself.

From that moment everything changed, not only as you might expect, but I started to look out for women who were not as lucky as I was. I began believing that each woman in the world was worth of a respected and SAFE birth.

My life has been divided between Italy, where I was born and raised, and Kenya, where I spent many years of my life. This country has given me so much, that I always wanted to give something back. It gave me chills, memories, strong emotions, but most of all friends and family. One of them was named Fauzia, she was my age, we grew up together until the day she told me she was pregnant. Unfortunately she died just few days after she gave birth in Kenya to a baby boy she named Andrea(as my husband). I was in Italy, i was young and beside sending her money to be well taken care off I did not know what to do. Doctors later told me she probably died of sepsi, a part of the placenta remained inside her uterus and was not scraped out.

I became a mother in 2014 and everything became clear, I needed to do much more to safe lives, to save those lives of mothers and babies who, with an appropriate, care could be easily saved. I founded my Organization Maharagwe (which means bean in kiswahili) Fauzia Onlus in 2015.

Now we are 3 women: my mother, myself and a precious friend who is a Doula named Sara. We share the same goal and believes.

My hope were MIDWIFES. Well trained midwives around the villages and in the hospitals who could safe lives, assist women and make sure pregnancies and births were both safe and respected.

• We are training midwifes in the rural areas of Kenya.
• We are sending medical stuff to help them make their job.
• We are helping women getting all the prenatal care they need.
• We are educating women on what their bodies are going trough and how to listen to them.
• We are helping families with babies to survive, to get appropriate food, medicines and care.

We always need economical support for the work we do and beside that we are trying to bring with us in February 2018 an italian Midwife named Sara Notarantonio and our Doula Sara Venneri which can help us to train the midwifes there. They are specialised in not medicalized births, in natural remedies and above all in making sure each birth is respected. Their presence in Kenya with us will not only save lives, but will elevate the position of women as professionals and mothers as individuals who deserve to be respected and treated with love and gentleness.

We will update our journey every step of the way. We will make sure you will cheer with us for every new birth, because with your donation we can make sure each mother will meet her baby and each baby will grew up with a mother <3
