Campaign Story
We are student midwives who are currently fundraising for a 3-week self-funded volunteer project in August 2019, where we will be working in a hospital in Arusha, Tanzania. We will be focusing on midwifery care and assisting in many areas of the hospital including the midwifery & labour ward, prenatal & antenatal care, newborn care and immunisations, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics and HIV awareness & testing.
Low resources result in poor standards of healthcare in Tanzania and the rising burden of HIV and AIDS treatment greatly contributes to the problem. Unfortunately, health standards in Tanzania have declined so much that it trails most other developing nations. Like many African countries, Tanzania faces an acute shortage of healthcare workers due to low pay, poor working conditions and limited training programmes. We hope to learn from local staff who make the most of the resources available to them and get involved in supporting their work.
Any additional funds that we raise will be used to purchase much needed basic equipment for the hospital such as gloves and hand sanitiser.
We will be holding fundraising events over the next year including a raffle with some exciting donated prizes, so watch this space!
Any donations would be very much appreciated.
Thank you for your support.
