Student midwife undertaking a degree at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. I am currently fundraising for a 3-week volunteer project which will take place in August 2019 in Arusha, Tanzania.
I will be holding fundraising events over the next year to raise some of the funds required and would be really grateful for any donations.
During the project I will be working in a hospital where I will be focusing on maternity care. Low resources result in poor standards of healthcare in Tanzania and the rising burden of HIV and AIDS treatment greatly contributes to the problem. Unfortunately, health standards in Tanzania have declined so much that it trails most other developing nations.
Like many African countries, Tanzania faces an acute shortage of healthcare workers due to low pay, poor working conditions and limited training programmes. We hope to learn from local staff who make the most of the resources available to them and get involved in supporting their work.
We are hoping to raise money to help contribute towards this cost and to enable us to purchase much needed basic equipment for the hospital such as gloves and hand sanitiser.
