I have always known that I wanted to become a midwife and care for women at one of the most amazing times of their lives. After applying for university in September, it quickly became a reality that the midwifery course is extremely competitive ane tough to get into. Therefore, I decided I want to take the year out to gain as much experience in midwifery as possible which isn't easy. However, after seeing the Gapmedics programme for pre-midwifery placements I knew that it is what I need to do.
I will be going to Tanzania for two weeks at the end of the year to volunteer in Iringa Regional Hospital where I can observe between 10 and 15 births a day on average. Generally these are complex cases as women don’t come in to hospital for a straightforward birth. Thirty per cent of these deliveries are by C-section, which makes for a varied placement! This experience will open up my world of midwifery and allow me to demonstrate my passion; it truly is a onde in a lifetime opportunity.
Whilst I'm in Tanzania, I will also have the amazing opportunity to volunteer with orphanages and make a difference to the lives of children over there. You may already know that resources are poor in Tanzania, especially in the hospitals. Therefore, I want to be able to make even a small difference to a woman over there, as pregnancy and labour can be so distressing for them.
I'm looking to raise £290 to put a deposit down and secure my place. Despite working a part time job it will be difficult to raise the funds for the trip and so any donation would help me so much. Alongside this, I will be raising money through charity concerts with a few friends who are planning to volunteer abroad.
Thankyou so much for taking the time to read about my trip and any donation is extremely appreciated. Thankyou for allowing me to live my dream.
