Michelle (Wright) Mould – Cochlear Implant – Joy of Hearing

Michelle (Wright) Mould is a collegue at work and great friend. Michelle is currently 52 years old and the hearing loss started early on and eventually lead to Michelle getting her first hearing aid in 2008 and has been progressively getting worse.

Michelle now has complete hearing loss in her right ear and moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss in her left ear, which is deteriorating. The deterioration of her hearing makes it very difficult for Michelle to perform optimally in a work environment and affects her everyday life including church.

Michelle’s ENT who is the cochear implat specialist Dr Butler has done tests and MRI scans to confirm that she is a good candidate for the Cochlear implant and should experience major benefits if she was to receive such intervention.

Michelle is not on any medical aid that could assist her with this affliction and therefore is on a charity waiting list to have the cochlear implant done. However giver her age priority is given to children and it is very unlikely that she will receive an implant given the high need for this procedure.

The cost for this life-changing intervention that will allow Michelle to embrace a normal and productive life has been quoted as R350 000-00 for one ear.
