Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately Michael lost his battle yesterday, he passed away at @ 9.30am Friday 7th August 2015.

He was so brave and so strong and he did not want to leave this world, but it all just got too hard.

A scan on Thursday revealed Mike's turmours had grown and he had pneumonia which after 3 different antibiotics it was just not going to go.

I know Mike would like to thank you all from the bottom of his heart for all your donations, prayers and thoughts. He had so many friends and I know he thought highly of you all.

Mike was a very caring person and would help anybody at any time.

He passed peacefully in his sleep, very quickly and in his own home surrounded by his animals, garden and his possessions.

We shall post funeral service notice soon.

Many thanks and love to All.

Hello everyone.

Just a quick update from Megan, Angela and Mike in Germany. I am doing the writing as he is quite poorly at the moment. Since the last update he has contracted pneumonia and has been finding it very difficult to breathe, so it has been a tough few days and nights. He has had some antibiotics to treat the pneumonia, however blood tests that were done this morning show that they weren't working , so he has now been given some new antibiotics so fingers crossed that these ones work.

Tomorrow he is going to have a CT scan to see how well the cancer has responded to all of the treatment over the last couple of months as well as another blood test to confirm whether or not these new antibiotics are working.

Thank you all again for all of the support ... With love Megan

Hello everyone,

Just a quick update to let you know how I'm getting on in Germany.

It's been a very tough couple of weeks re; pain, total exhaustion and more weight loss. I had a 'port' fitted in hospital earlier in the week, ( a semi-permanent tap via a chamber and catheter into a large, deep vein in the front of my shoulder ).......and not without it's complications, but that's a long story! as my veins have had so many needles in them that they just couldn't cope any more, so this is much better for infusions and allows greater flexibility. Over the last 3 to 4 weeks I have also been having more and more problems breathing, to the point where I can hardly walk from one room to another without gasping and needing oxygen... not recommended! A chest x-Ray done when in for the Port fitting has shown my lungs to have gone opaque, indicating fluid in all the tiny alveoli within the lungs. Kiki ( Dr Kilarski ) is treating me for this with various things to get rid of excess fluid, plus steroids etc, plus a blood test had shown that my Haemoglobin had dropped to 7 and should be anything upto 20 for a man. She consequently gave me 2 units of blood yesterday and as of this afternoon I definitely have a bit more energy which is great.

Angela had to go back to the uk yesterday to get back to work but Megan came over yesterday to pick up the mantle. Ange has done a brilliant job caring for me as I really can't do much without help and like wise so is Megan. She leaves to go back to work on Friday but my sister Jane from Ireland arrives tomorrow to take her place.

I have my next PD1 infusion on Friday which is sooner than planned and at a higher dose rate as Kiki feels that progress is too slow, so we shall see... as know that it will floor me in the short term but a very important part of the treatment.

I'd better stop waffling now but suffice to say, again thank all of you so so much for all the support and wonderful, comments, I can't reiterated enough how much it all means to me.

With love and best wishes to all.

Mike

As most of you know, I'm in Germany now having treatment here which includes various infusions and Hypothermie ( localised heat treatment ) as cancer cells don't do well in temperatures above 42 degrees c. The last few weeks have been very tough.... The pain is now very bad and I'm very weak, I am in fact having my second of 2 infusions of 3000 calories to help perk me up a bit. I have just had my blood test results back to see if I am positive for the auto-immune drug PD1 and at the moment I can't yet have it as my immune system, to put it bluntly is 'shot to bits', due to all the chemo and radiotherapy. Dr Kilarski, who is treating me and very experienced with cancer is now targeting my immune system with specific treatments to bring it back on line ( now she knows in what areas it is weakest ) and will then hopefully start treatment with PD1, whereby allowing my immune system to recognise the cancer as an Alien and attack it.... brand new drug but my best hope as the tumours are all quite large now. I may also look to go back to Holland briefly in the meantime for a specialist nerve- block to help with the pain but not sure about that yet.

On a different note, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, all my friends, family, everyone from Dale Hill and even strangers for all your support so far, I have been genuinely humbled, the comments have been so lovely and they have really cheered me up during what has been and is sometimes a very dark and lonely place.... Thank you all. With love and very best wishes, Mike xx

Thanks for the comprehensive update Mikey, can’t have been easy doing it in your current weakened state. So sorry about the PD1, but it sounds like you’re in good hands with Dr Kilarski, and soon the therapies will start kicking in, i pray to God every day you will get relief from the pain, and I intend to keep it up until you’ve beaten this. Ask your doctor if she’s heard of a new compound extracted from Magnolia bark thats being hailed as effective against some cancers. Stay positive Mal xxx
