Michael Brosnihan Medical Fund

My Name is Michael Beach Brosnihan.

I'm an extreme boards sports specialist who was brought up and raised in

Durban, South Africa.

I have an extreme passion for sport, especially anything really dangerous, i

live life itself on the edge, I feed off adrenaline and i love pushing my limits.

I specialize in skimboarding, skateboarding and surfing. I held the highest

position ever attained by any South African in an international contest, infact one

of the biggest contests in the world, in Angola where I was placed 2nd in 2014.

I was very into my downhill and pump track skateboarding.

I was one of the fastest guys on the track who went into corners like a mad man

and was a man on a mission to become the fastest on the track no matter

what it took. I was invited to Germany's new pump track to compete in there last

competition but due to my all of a sudden realization of my injury i couldn't go

compete.

With regards to my surfing career, i never really made it big time however i did

win the Wave Wizards under 18 division my first year of competitive surfing but i

never stuck at it as i rather love to charge big swell when it hit Durban, my

new favorite thing was to get towed out to the mound waves 4kms out at sea

and ride 15 foot waves on my skimboard.

I was about to go oversea's, i had a house on Newport Beach where i was

going to stay, this is where the Wedge Wave is in California. This was a dream

of mine to skim this wave. Its one of the most powerful waves in the world.

My plan was to compete in as many competitions as possible and get on the

world tour for skimboarding. I gave notice to the house that i was staying at

and 1 month before i was about to go, my back went into a spasm.

I went to see a chiropractor and was advised things dont look good and to go

for x-rays. Then i was advised that i had spondiythetis - my spine had fallen in

1.4cm, my disk between L4 & L5 had totally disintegrated and was bone on

bone, ontop of this i also was diagnosed with my bilateral pars interticularis

defect, with acute on chronic changes. Which basically means i have two

fractures as well. So in other terms my spine is in 2. The doctor told me i need

surgery as there is a chance of me loosing my bile's and if this happens i have

an 8hr window period to go in for surgery otherwise i can go paralyzed from

the waist down.

I was about to leave for the US and i was stupidly not on medical aid at the

time and therefore cannot afford this surgery and this is why i have put this fund together to help me get the surgery as soon as possible so that i don't hurt myself more and go into paralysis. I will need to raise money to cover the cost of my opperation and reabilitation.
