Makasing Eco Street Stylers Arts exhibition is a platform for young people who are passionate about eco fashion, photography, music, arts & craft and modeling but do not have any solid distribution channel or a place to showcase, promote and sell their products or services. The initiative started in June 2019 by two young women namely; Phumudzo Muthanyi and Mbali Mokgosi who are both directors and co-founders of Micgalaw pty ltd. MicGalaw as a small business realized that it is really difficult to penetrate the market, it took us a year and two (2) month to find our first distribution channel that worked and created income for the business.
Hence, we want to host an exhibition which could grow to be an annually hosted flea market were locally manufactured brands created by young designers, crafters and entrepreneurs in Orange farm and its neighboring townships are recognized. The flea market can help expose their brands directly to the market and also it lead us to tourism ventures and more job opportunities.
During the month of September 2019 a record of 736 murders were found by police between April 2018 and March 2019 which were committed by children in South Africa. The closet murder that occurred was in Evaton were a 14-year-old boy stepped a 15-year-old boy to death over a cellphone. The stabbing & killing amongst scholars made us realize that the upcoming youth has a huge problem of dealing with emotions, expressing their pain, fear and anger, with the current economic state south Africa is in it leaves the youth more frustrated.
Micgalaw has collaborated with Ten (10) SMMES both formal and informal businesses foundered by young people from Orange farm and neighboring townships. Who will showcase their beautiful and artistic products made from recyclable materials together with MicGalaw. We will also motivate the younger generation who are still in high school with an inspirational short documentary film, photography, career guidance and motivational talks and teach young people how to use art as a form of expressing their emotions and a form of rehabilitation. IWASSHOT has also came on board and will be sponsoring us with a photobooth to get an epic experience to capture the memories. Pikitup has also came on board and sponsored us with a venue which is easily accessible and close to the police station which makes it safer to host our event. We also managed to invite six (6) secondary schools around ext1 and 7 at Orange farm namely; Jabulele, Aha Thuto,Leshata, Mpheti Mahlatsi, Orange farm high and Qoqa.
