Raymond Hughes was hit by a drunk driver and the victim of a motor vehicle accident, but victimized twice over by the harsh anti-gun laws of New Jersey. Raymond is a Pennsylvanian resident, permitted to carry in his home state, traveling through New Jersey, when being the victim of another's crime resulted in him being charged by the State.
Raymond is presently charged with the second-degree crime, N.J.S. 2C:39-5B, "Unlawful possession of a weapon" which carries with it the presumption of New Jersey State Prison time, with sentences ranging between 5 and 10 years with a mandatory period of parole ineligibility of between 3 and 5 years. Under the Graves Act, the judge must follow this mandatory sentencing provisions if Raymond is convicted.

What you are going through is part of the reason that we need uniform gun laws, which are consistently enforced throughout the United States. If individual states are going to be the entities regulating gun possession the there needs to be reciprocal recognition of other state pernits. Also, there should be a Federal preemption for legitimate interstate gun transport. I hope prosecutors and legistlators in NJ quickly come to their senses and end your nightmare quickly.
