I AM THE PLC CHAIRPERSON FOR MY SONS SCHOOL, ST JOHNS COLLEGE HERE IN HARARE ZIMBABWE. MHIKO AN UPPER 6 STUDENT AT THE COLLEGE SUFFERS FROM A SEVERE CONGENITAL HEART DEFECT AND AS A RESULT OF THIS HE SUFFERED A CARDIAC ARREST AT THE COLLEGE ON TUESDAY 16TH OF JANUARY 2018. SUSTAINED RESUSCITATION EFFORTS BEGAN ON SIRE AND CONTINUED WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE AMBULANCE CREW AND WAS SWIFTLY EVACUATED TO HOSPITAL. RAPID SUSTAINED MEDICAL ATTENTION ENSURED THAT HE WAS STABILISED AND BEGAN TO RECOVER IN ICU.
AS OF 19TH JANUARY HE WAS ON LIFE SUPPORT BUT REPORTED TO BE IMPROVING WITH NO NEGATIVE EFFECTS ON THE BRAIN. HE WAS FULLY RESPONSIVE AND A FURTHER CAT SCAN WAS EXPECTED. ACCORDING TO DR C H BANNERMAN (CONSULTANT PAEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGIST), AS OF 23RD JANUARY HE IS OFF LIFE SUPPORT BUT HE URGENTLY REQUIRES TO HAVE FURTHER OPEN HEART SURGERY IN SOUTH AFRICA. THIS WILL COST IN THE REGION OF R600,000 TO R800,000 (USD50,000).
THIS APPEAL IS AN INITIATIVE BY THE PLC AND THE ST JOHNS COLLEGE.
