Campaign Story
Tanzania is a resource strained country with a weak healthcare system which is challenged by high maternal mortality, child mortality, HIV/AIDS and malaria. Tanzania’s population has some of the lowest accessibility rates to healthcare in the world. Acute shortage of healthcare workers, poor working conditions, lack of supplies and limited training programs contribute to the problems.
We (Lisa van Dijk and Tyra Origbe) are currently volunteering at the Meru District Hospital located in Arusha, Tanzania. We’ve witnessed the social and economic challenges this hospital faces and the shocking working conditions. For example, power cuts and poor hygiene measures are a frequent occurrence, so we’ve decided to start fundraising.
The funds will be used for the lacking supplies and machines and we’ll focus on the minor surgery, paediatric ward, maternity ward and neonatal care. For instance, supplies like flowmeters and RBG machines for paediatrics; blood pressure monitors and pulse oximeters for minor surgery; nasogastric tubes and incubators for the neonatal ward. We also would like to provide the hospital of AED machines. The whole list of lacking supplies and machines we wish to finance can be found in the pictures provided above.
