Campaign Story
Sometimes it’s not all tacos and tequila!
We’re appealing for help to raise funds and alleviate community hardship.
Being an expat in Merida, Yucatan has been an incredible experience. This region is known for its fierce cultural pride, beautiful beaches, Mayan ruins and great people. But with the good, comes the challenging.
The twin disasters of COVID-19 and tropical storms bringing torrential rain has meant the region is taking a battering. Whole communities have lost their ability to access food and water, as the rains cut off towns and destroy crops and livestock, and most are not able to engage in paid work due to the COVID-19 crisis.
An incredible local organization (Solyluna a.c.) and I, are looking to make an immediate difference to locals and surrounding towns and help alleviate the food crisis as well as fund much needed roof repairs for those affected by the recent storms.
What we’re planning:
- Dispense 30+ hampers containing food and sanitary products, that will feed a family of 4-5 people for one month
Complete much needed roof repairs for families recently affected by the torrential rains
You can make a difference.
- $30 buys a food and goods hamper for a family of 2-3 for one month
- $60 buys a food and goods hamper for a family of 4-5 for a month
- $120 buy a food and goods hamper for two families for a month
- $300 buys the materials required to repair the roof for a family living with a child with a disability
So far, we have raised $600 (10 000 pesos) for food hampers, prior to the tropical storm and torrential rain, and are now appealing for further assistance. Any amount, big or small, will make a huge impact.
