2/3(two thirds) of girls agree that, "period days are not like any
other days." As a result of challenges faced by girls in their periods
forexample cramps, poor menstrual hygiene Management due to lack of
access to clean water and effective absorbents. Scarcity of Soap, water,
lack of privacy, inadequate social support and presence of taboos
manifest into psychosocial effects such as shame, fear, anxiety and
distraction which ends up affecting the girls'/womens' ability to
thrive and succeed within the community.
In our own community of
JANDIRA;KASANJE, poor menstrual hygiene management is fueled by the
extreme poverty hence more than half of the teenage girls dropout of
school, become prematurely pregnant due to exchange of sex for basic
monthly menstrual necessities such as sanitary pads. This early exposure
usually results into poor maternal and child health, death on top of
being isolated by their already poor relatives.
As Tuezuule
Initiative started a campaign to avail trainings, skilling the young
girls, adolescent mothers, vulnerable elderly women and marginalised
people with making Re-usable sanitary pads will not only cater for their
monthly menstrual needs but also will provide surplus for catering for
the day to day increasing cost of living.
The proposed project seeks to usher over 2000 victims from menstrual challenges and extreme poverty.
The
project aims at tapping in on the victims' potential through
sensitization and rights awareness on generation, capacity building and
setting up entrepreneurship trainings, counselling sessions in the
community. considering the socio-cultural and financial needs of the
community, the proposed project is intended continuous and socially
feasible, economically viable and environmentally sound.
For $15
you can sponsor the training of one individual and not only avail their
menstrual needs but also help them develope an enterprise where they
will earn for a life time.
We are so grateful for the support we
have received so far. Since we begun this campaign, many people have
been reached out to and their lives have been impacted for good.
Dear agent of change please support our programs Even if by donating $1 towards this mission.
Use of Funds
The funds will be used to Carry out trainings(purchasing raw
materials ie sewing machines, etc) in making Re-usable sanitary pads
for survival (personal use/free distribution) to promote good menstrual
hygiene management and later on the resilient successful trainees will
be organized into an enterprise to produce for commercial purposes so as
to improve their standards of living and sustain the project.
This will help to impact on more and more people..
