We are asking for your prayers and help for our dear son Oliver Matthew Sera for his heart surgeries. Ollie was diagnosed with TOF or Tetralogy of Fallot, a Congenital Heart Disease. He also has Pulmonary Valve Atresia and Patent Ductus Arteriosus. Tetralogy of Fallot means there are 4 defects in Ollie's heart that needs to be repaired, but his case is a complex one with PVA and PDA. Doctors say that the reason he can breathe and live like a normal baby is because of his PDA defect, but this needs to be fixed as well. We found out about heart condition when he got confined at 3 months old for pneumonia. After a week on antibiotics, he got cleared of pneumonia but his oxygen levels were still low, so his Pulmo-pedia referred him to a cardiologist to check him. The cardiologist heard a murmur in his heart and sent him for a 2D-Echo. The 2D Echo showed his heart was boot-shaped and has a big hole in it. He said that we need to go to Philippine Heart Center to apply for a free operation.

We went to the Philippine Heart Center last October to see a specialist and we were advised that Ollie was going to undergo 2-3 surgeries in his lifetime. That is because aside from TOF, lab results showed two more defects which is PVA and PDA. The doctor said that he will have do undergo a BT-Shunt procedure which costs P232,960.00. In this procedure, the shunt will create a pathway for blood to reach his lungs. The doctor said that this will be done when his oxygen saturation level is consistently below 70, but the doctor hopes that we do the procedure when he turns 1 year old. He is currently getting 77-85 now that he's 5 months old. The second surgery would be 1-3 years later with wherein they do a total repair with conduit valve replacement in his heart. We're praying that he can have his full repair by then, as there are some cases wherein they had their full repair already even after missing the BTS procedure. But this has some risks. The full repair package for TOF costs P491,382.00 and this is payward for 9 days. Unfortunately, we are no longer covered of the Z Benefit because it is valid only for TOF cases and not complex ones. This could have really helped us a lot. For TOF cases only, a child can have his full repair when he turns 1 year old and we are only going to pay a small amount for the open heart surgery. We tried to line up for charity for a free surgery, but because there are a lot of patients awaiting their scheduled dates, it would take years before we get our schedule, complex cases take even longer to get called and we don't want to risk it. The more we delay for his operation, the more chances of him getting complications.

Because of Ollie's condition, he becomes cyanotic (turns blue) when he cries and his lips and nails become blue as well when he is low on oxygen. Fortunately, he has not had any major TET spells. He is on medication and taking Propanololol, a beta blocker to keep his heart rate stable and blood pressure normal. Also, because of this condition, he is prone to get sick easily and a simple cough and cold could lead to pneumonia which is why he cannot go to crowded places. A child with his condition easily gets tired and since he does not get enough oxygen, may have delayed development.

We hope to give Ollie a normal and happy heart soon, and although we try our best to save up for his coming operations, we may not be able to save enough by the time he needs it as the cost of travel expenses, laboratories, and check ups in Manila burdens us and our priority right now is to provide for his basic needs. We live in the province and we have to travel to get him checked. The surgery can only be done in Manila as well.

We are asking for your good hearts to help save our little one's heart and give him a normal life. My baby Ollie is a happy child. He brings us so much joy. He is the light of our lives and my dream is for him to grow up happy, healthy and kind. I want him to be able to play and go out like any other children would.

We are knocking on your good hearts to help us mend Baby Ollie's heart. Any donations, big or small is sincerely appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please pray for his overall health and successful operations and share the link for the cause.

Thank you and have a blessed day!
