UPDATE 9/25/15 My continued thanks to everyone who has donated. I have received notification that others are still planning to donate so I have extended the cut-off date to 10/1/15. Please make your donations by that time. I have also uploaded a video shared by a former student and friend, Robin Fukaya. This video shows a 32 year old Púder and myself demonstrating Mezőségi. It is not the best quality but does manage to convey Púder's personality and talents. Enjoy and please donate!

UPDATE 8/15/15 My continued thanks to everyone for their generosity. My original cut-off date was to be August 21 but, since the people taking the money to Zoli's family are not going to Hungary until October, I will be changing the cut-off date to September 25. This will also give you an opportunity to share with other the link to the memorial page and encourage more donations to Zoli's family.

At the final táncház of Ti Ti Tábor in Gig Harbor, WA, the band, Dűvő, played a memorial at midnight of Bonchidai Invertita , which Púder had become associated with teaching. There were candles lit and everyone stood in honor of Púder. Afterwards, it was suggested that the campers dance the Bonchidai dance cycle out of honor to Púder, which they did. Once I get video of that event, I will post with this update.

UPDATE 7/24/15 Thanks everyone for your donations to the family. It is greatly appreciated. I asked his widow, Éva, a picture of Zoli with their children so, if you hadn't had the opportunity to see his lovely family, you could meet them through this adorable picture that is clearly a visit to Anonymous in Vörömárty Square. If you plan to donate but haven't yet, please know the need is great. Please give.

UPDATE 7/21/15: So many people have been posting pictures on Facebook of the times they were in a class or workshop with Púder recounting how kind he was, how helpful, how humorous--the superlatives could go on and on. Púder made each person feel special. It's been wonderful to see pictures from recently as well as early as the 8Os from his touring and teaching in many different countries.

There have even been 225 shares of this memorial posting. And the page has been viewed 994 times. That is so wonderful! We are also grateful to those 18 people who have stepped forward to make a donation to help Éva, his widow, navigate these unsettling times while she handles all the details and arrangements and then has to face supporting her family--alone. I am sure she will figure it out but it will take a little time. I am making a new appeal to everyone who views this page to think about making a donation--even if only $10--as a way of saying thank you to Púder. Also, please feel free to leave a message for his wife, Éva, if you would like as she can see your messages. She speaks English fluently so feel free to write in English. Thank you. Éva Kish

ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Zoltán Nagy, known to his friends and students as "Púder", made it a mission of his life to acquaint as many people as possible with the beauty of the folklore of his native Hungary through teaching Hungarian folk dances in the táncház style all over the world. He touched many people not only with his teaching but with his friendship, humor and welcoming spirit.

Púder died on July 10 and there was a Mass said for him on the 14th. May God grant his soul eternal peace. Zoli is being cremated and details of the cremation and funeral placement of his urn to follow.

The tragedy of his untimely death leaves his wife, Éva, and his three young children without a husband and father. Perhaps through our sadness we can honor Puder by making a donation that will be sent to his family and show them how much he was loved all over the world.

Paypal will accept donations in many currencies, not just US $, and accepts credit and debit cards without having to have a Paypal account. I have set an end date of August 21 for this memorial. If 200 people donate $50, we will have collected $10,000 for Puder's family. I think 200 people who loved Puder is the tip of the iceberg. Please share this memorial with your friends and dance groups. Thank you on behalf of his family.

Drága Pudrosz, most meg az angyalokat tanitod? A Halmos Béla, Pálfi Gyuszi, Tinka, Savanyú, Janek Jocóval és sok más táncházassal nagy táncházat vertek a mennyországban! Örökre élsz a szivunkben és a táncos lábunkban. Vuka

  • Zoli was one of those people who are bigger than life. His presence in the Hungarian dance world has been felt by many and he will be sorely missed by us all. We are glad to offer love and support to his family in his honor and in thanks for sharing him with us.

  • Eva, we only met you once shortly after you and Zoli married. I have thought about you, Zoli and the children so many times over these years. Zoli was a generous teacher of dance and a good man. I am so sorry for your loss.

  • A vey sad loss: I remember studying with Pder in Srospatak in 1985, as well as at other places: his joy at teaching gave us joy in equal measure. Wishing continued success in this fundraising campaign and sending sincere condolences to his family.

  • We only just heard the tragic news, how sad and how untimely. Zoltan had come to teach a 5-day dance workshop for us in Egg, Austria twice already. His enthusiasm, joyful and fun nature made it a great pleasure for everyone. He came with his family. Thank you for this fundraising project.
