Campaign Story
At about 150 lbs, I was in great shape and form in 2016. I do regular exercise and does not drink nor smoke. Health-wise, I was okay back then or I thought I was, until I was rushed to the hospital in December due to intolerable gouty pain.
My various test results came back with a news that turned my life completely upside down. Without any symptoms, I was diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) and found out that my kidneys' functionality is only at 9%, 2 days before Christmas. I froze and cried in fear knowing that my life could soon end without any sign. That with the effects of this dreaded illness, my potassium level could easily shoot up and arrest my heart in my sleep, leaving my lovely family husbandless, sonless, brotherless. My 2 kids are still young. They're full of life, smart, and loving. I want to see them grow up and become successful, not fatherless.
With a creatinine level of 8.5 (highest normal is 1.2), a poor blood chem stats (low hemoglobin, high uric acid, etc.), and an elevated blood pressure, I needed an immediate dialysis while we search for a possible kidney donor --- my only chance to live longer. I had to take a number of oral and injectable medicines to help improve my condition for the last 7 months. Despite these medicines and switching to a full vegetarian diet, my latest lab test results came back with an increased creatinine level of 9.3 and the rest are not showing any improvement. My kidneys' functionality also went down to 6.5%. These are indicative that I cannot delay the transplant any further. My youngest sister is the only one in the family that matches my blood type and is my sole donor.
Because I've been out of work since December 2016, my medical expenses greatly depleted our family's savings. Even with government assistance, medications are expensive and not covered by it. Knowing that the pre-transplant workup, transplant procedure, and post-transplant medical expenses are significantly costly, my family and I have been rallying up to raise the required fund. In an effort to extend my life, my wife (Karen) and sisters (Rose, Nicki, & Jean) will be coordinating the online fundraising and transfer. For those of you who are willing to assist, you may make your deposits to the below-listed bank account numbers. I am appealing for your help. Even the littlest amount you can give could go a long way.
