"But there's a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where yours begin." - Mitch Albom, For One More Day

--

Dear community,

Thank you for taking the time and energy into reading this and I hope wherever you are right now, that you are well and that you are safe.

Our mom (Gatmela Canlas - Roxas) experienced flu like symptoms last September 04, 2020. The following day, she's having loose bowel movement and she's coughing a bit.

It is only on September 07, 2020 when she decided to go to the hospital. She was sent home and was advised to drink some antibiotics. The following day, we've learned that she's Covid-19 positive. Around 11:00 PM of September 10, we decided to bring her back to the hospital because her condition didn't improved. As we arrived, my mom is having difficulty in breathing. She can't stand on her feet without our help. The doctors said that pneumonia progressed and she need to be in Critical Care Unit for treatment.

By September 12, the doctors decided to intubate her because her oxygen saturation won't reach the normal and her respiratory rate is at 40 (the normal is 20).

Last September 24, we're able to see our mom thru a videocall. She was awake and responded to our voices, she was sedated for almost a month.

Since September 25, our family started buying her medications via cash basis because the hospital asked us to pay 50% of her 3.6 Million Pesos running bill (without Professional/Doctor's Fee) as of today, October 9, 2020. The bed side nurse said she's responding well with her antibiotics.

She undergone blood transfusion (she's an AB+ blood type) last September 29 and October 06, 2020. Up to this day, our mom still in CCU in a Quezon City hospital. With this, we decided to post this as we really need help for the hospital bills to be settled, our savings are all dried out.

We, as a family, are rooting for this intervention to battle against Mommy Mel's disease. With all our hopes surrendered to God, together with the family who never fail to support us, our healthcare professionals who make sure every detail of the course has been covered, we are claiming that our Mommy Mel would have a quality life that she deserves and enjoy daily living to the fullest, she was so happy months ago when she got 2 new grandsons last June 12 and July 17.

We are knocking in your good hearts to help us raise funds to cover for the CCU/hospital bills and for us to continue buying for our mom's medicines. If you have anything spare to give, it would mean the absolute world and we hope we can give back in some way or another... Every single penny counts and will help a lot.

------------

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mel Roxas last night October 14, 2020.

We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude all of our relatives, friends and to the people who showed support, love and compassion for our mommy Mel for these past weeks.

Words are not enough to express the sorrow we are all feeling now but we are comforted knowing that Mommy Mel can finally rest from the extreme pain and suffering.

Thank you for your sympathy, kindness and condolences during our time of loss and grief. It gives us much comfort to know that you are praying for us. We cannot thank you enough.
