Meghan Skyum – Peru Wildlife Conservation Project

Hola Amigos! Thank you for visiting my page, first and foremost. My inspiration is to work in the Peruvian Jungle, assisting with the conservation of the Amazon Rainforest. My hopes are that I will also make a positive impact not only on the environment, but also within the community in which I am placed. My volunteer work will be very physically demanding and will mainly consist of: planting shrubs, trees and orchids and removing invasive species that are growing within the area. Volunteers in my project will also be keeping inventory of species by observing and counting various species of birds and primates in the area. After volunteering for the day, I want to help with teaching English at the local schools in Cuzco. Right now, I work and go to school and volunteer every Friday at the local Indian Friendship Centre. My main initiative is to help other people; to help a community apart from my own is both foreign and exciting to me. Although this particular volunteer placement is relatively costly, the effort I put into fundraising is worth while to me, and will be a rewarding experience for both me and every person who I coincide with during my placement in Peru. Any contributions made by friends, family or complete strangers will be used gracefully and every cent will go toward my goal. I am already so grateful. Muchos Gracias!
