Meg’s Angels

Update posted by CarlandJeanneStenta On Jun 15, 2015

Sorry about the long overdue update. She's feeling pretty well lately, dare I say it? She is in a lighter phase of chemo now called delayed intensification, and doing well, walking and eating better, etc. After this she'll go back into interim maintenance, which has 2 parts. That's the phase that gave her such trouble and requires hospital stays every 15 days. All these phases are going slower than they're supposed to, since her counts are often not high enough enough to proceed. All in all, our Meg is coping, keeping a great attitude, and enjoying the easy times when she can. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers...she still has a long way to go! ! Thanks all for the prayers and caring for her. You are doing an immense service to a sick girl, and I'm certain it will come back to you some day

She is feeling pretty good, eating and walking on her own. We are so proud of her hard work to catch up schoolwork (which is pretty advanced for her grade, so it's a big job). She LOVED all the birthday cards and appreciates all the good wishes and prayers so much. She goes back in Wednesday for another treatment, so we're hoping she does better this time and that it doesn't take 8 or 9 days to get home again. Please keep this sweet girl in your thoughts as she goes through this frightening journey, and also help if you can. Thank you all for being so wonderful! <3

She is finally home (at midnight last night) from her most recent round of chemo. Instead of 3-4 days, she is spending 8-9 days each time in the hospital every two weeks! This is due to her body holding the chemo in and not clearing it for a longer time than it's supposed to take. Nothing they can do about that, so she's stuck with the situation in this phase of her treatment. It sure makes it hard to feel normal though. She was also very sick from it this time. Not leaving much time to get fitted for leg braces, wig, etc., etc.
She has many more rounds of treatment ahead of her (too many to think about). Your cards, gifts, prayers and well wishes truly help to cheer her up and to feel the kindness you all have shown her. Please do not stop donating, praying, sending your regards, as it all means so much! This young girl is working hard to maintain her positive attitude, her schoolwork, and her appreciation for life. Quote: "They spoil me like heck here!".
Thank you thank you thank you for caring!

I wanted to thank everyone who sent cards or gifts to Meghan. They were overwhelmed by the amount of cards and gifts she received. It really made her day a happy one, not only to receive so much but to see the kindness in all of you. Thank you, it means so much to all of us <3

She is home this week after 9 days in the hospital, which should have been 3 or 4. After chemo it took 9 days for the drugs to clear her body, so she had to stay, hooked up to iv's, til her numbers were good. So she's finally home, after a long boring stay. Good news is she is eating again, and feeling better. The chemo causes neuropathy, which means she falls easily, and her hands and arms aren't working too well. This is a side effect of one of the drugs, which can't be stopped because it's the main weapon against leukemia. So for now, it's leg braces, walker and physical therapy. Thank goodness she isn't feeling pain, so that's a small mercy. Aside from being very tired, she feels ok. Perhaps this is the usual experience of a child going through this, but it's all new to her and us.
Meg will be 15 on Tuesday. Her positive attitude and courage through all this is astonishing. She thanks you all for your help and your support, along with the cards and wonderful wishes! Please continue to donate/pray/write, as you make it a little easier for Meg and her family to bear this...

She's back in the hospital for scheduled chemo. Great news: the feeding tube is OUT, since she's been eating pretty successfully lately! We are ecstatic about this. Meg still has many challenges in front of her, but this is a very important quality of life issue! This girl meets life head on, and we are so proud of her! Thank you all so much for your prayers and support!

Meg's birthday is coming up on April 14. She will be 15. If you would like to send her a card, please let me know and I'll send you her address. I have hidden this post from her so she won't know! I'll quote from Annie Tunnicliffe since i couldn't say it better myself:
"Hey everyone, I am trying to lift the spirits of my cousin and it would be awesome if you all could help! She is 14 years old and was recently diagnosed with leukemia and has started undergoing treatment. Since her birthday is April 14, I thought it would be nice if she received a bunch of uplifting and creative cards from a bunch of strangers. A few kind words can really go a long way and positivity is crucial when you're going through what she is. She likes pink and black, dogs and cats, and bands like twenty one pilots, panic at the disco, and of course tswift and lorde. If you'd like to help out please let me know and I will send you an address. Feel free to share this with your friends because the more the merrier (as long as she doesn't find out!). Thank you all so much for being wonderful humans and I hope you're all doing well "

Meg is home from the hospital. This time it looks good. She had her first interim maintenance chemo, and did pretty well. Nothing too serious for side effects...today she feels good - is even having a friend over! She is once again trying to eat a little, and her goal is to get rid of the feeding tube altogether. We are still a little afraid to hope that the worst is over, but it certainly looks hopeful!! Thank you all for your prayers and your kindness. All the cards and packages are so appreciated, and Meg feels your love! It makes so much difference! <3

Update on Meg:
She is home again, after a week in the hospital and tons of tests. Nothing was really solved, but she is feeling a bit better. Her count is coming up, so she should be able to get a chemo treatment later this week, which has been delayed due to her issues up to now. It's hard to say things have improved, since nothing conclusive was found or done, but we choose to be hopeful! She has received many cards and well wishes, and appreciates all your prayers. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. There is no way to tell you how much it helps

Wanted to give you an update, Meg is back in the hospital again as of last night after only being home a few days since her last stay. She had a high fever again and started vomiting again, so off they went at 10 pm for the hour to hour and half drive back to the hospital. She still has the feeding tube thank goodness because its obvious she still cannot keep anything down. Please send prayers for her and Teri, they have been through so much already and they have so far to go. Thank you to all who have donated and sent prayers we appreciate you all♥

We got word of Meg's upcoming 15th birthday and current fight with leukemia from Marge Gales whose daughter is a good friend. Diana decided to send out a note here in New Hampshire. As a retired nurse I want Meg and her mom that I know their suffering seems overwhelming at times but to hang in - have faith that your healthcare team will and work hard to stay positive.
