We are reaching out to you today with a plea for help. Our beloved furry friend, Dorna, who is a cherished member of our local community, recently suffered a serious injury that required urgent medical attention. We're hoping to rally together as a community to support her during this difficult time.

On the morning of May 16, we discovered a sizable open wound on Dorna's underbelly that was bleeding uncontrollably. We rushed her to the vet, where she underwent surgery to repair the damage. Thanks to the skilled care of the veterinary team at East Island, Dorna is now on the road to recovery and is expected to make a full comeback.

Although the wound itself was not large on the surface, the damage inside was extensive and required significant medical intervention. Dorna had to stay at the animal hospital for two nights and will require additional follow-up care, including wearing a drain bag and staying indoors for a few weeks to prevent infection and promote healing.

She's been through a tough time and needs multiple vet visits to fully recover. As a loving community, we can come together and support Dorna by contributing to her medical expenses. Even a small donation can make a huge difference in her life.

HER STORY

Dorna is our Big Wave Bay village dog. She was born and raised here and has been a well-known local in the area for the last 13 years. She loves long strolls at the beach and enjoys rolling around in the sand and water. Throughout the years, she has been passed along to several different owners in the village.

However, since June 2021, she has been left to fend for herself. A few of us in the village have kept her fed and sheltered as much as we can. To this day, Dorna remains a happy and free-range adventurer.

Despite all the care we have provided, it is not easy to upkeep all her needs, especially medically. As she ages, we foresee more vet visits in the future.

WHAT HAPPENED (July 2022)

Recently, Dorna injured her toe (right hind dew claw) and it quickly developed into a serious infection within just a couple of days. She was then seen limping and extremely irritated, and constantly licking and chewing the wound making it worse. We brought her to the vet and they, thankfully, managed to extract 9 maggots from the wound. Dorna had to stay in the hospital under observation for several days as the wound was severe.

Fortunately, things are looking better for Dorna. She\'s currently healing as expected. We\'ll hopefully see her on the beach in a couple of weeks once the wound is fully healed and greenlighted by the vet.

On the other hand, we are now left with a 10k+ bill from the vet. Considerable efforts and housing arrangements have been made to keep her indoors while her wound heals.

WHAT'S NEEDED (July 2022)

Medical bills are always a pain in the ass. The vet bills continue to rack up and we\'re not sure when they\'ll stop. We are expecting general follow-up checks at the vet as she continues to heal.

Our biggest fear is that Dorna might be required to have her infected digit removed if the wound doesn\'t heal as expected by the vet. This will require a complex surgery. In the short term, some financial contributions (or any help) will be appreciated. For the long term, a better care system or a forever-loving home for Dorna would be great.

Dorna 係大浪灣嘅村狗。 佢過去10幾年都喺呢度土生土長。你平時可能都會見到佢自己去沙灘玩水。 咁多年以來佢曾經喺村裏面有過幾個唔同嘅主人。但係自 2021 年 6 月開始佢就被遺棄得返佢一個，就算係咁佢大致上都依然係一隻健康開朗嘅狗仔。我哋村𥚃面有幾個人都盡可能地照顧佢餵食同埋俾佢有瓦遮頭。

即使我哋幾盡力幫忙照顧，都好難滿足到Dorna生活所有嘅需求，尤其係醫療方面。隨住佢年紀開始大，我哋預計將來只會有更多醫療開支。

最近，Dorna 一隻腳趾（右後露爪）因指甲倒生而受傷。 傷口喺短短幾日迅速發展為嚴重感染。 我哋帶咗佢去獸醫，獸醫喺傷口移除咗 9 條蛆蟲，亦都消毒處理咗個傷口。 但由於傷口感染太嚴重，Dorna要留院觀察幾日，之後亦必須留喺室內住宿一至兩星期以防再次有蟲感染。

幸運嘅係，Dorna真係好堅強，並且康復得唔錯。 等傷口完全癒合同獸醫批准，相信我哋喺幾個禮拜後又會再次喺海灘見到健康開心同自由嘅Dorna。

另一方面，到目前為止Dorna喺獸醫嘅賬單已經花費10k以上。 喺佢療養期間，我哋亦已經花咗相當大嘅努力同住宿安排，等佢住响室內避免蛆蟲再次感染，以防所有嘅醫療同安排都前功盡廢。

一樣令人擔心嘅事係，醫療費用總係好龐大嘅開銷。 隨住Dorna康復，我哋仍然需要返獸醫複診，而與此同時喺照顧Dorna期間我哋亦發現佢可能有其他健康問題需要獸醫處理，因此預計賬單只會繼續增加。
