Medical Volunteering in a Ghanaian Hospital

In August I will be voluenteering in a hospital in Ghana for 3 weeks.  Its going to really exciting and I will be helping loads people while I am there. I need over £2000 for the project, fortunately I have been able to fund most of it myself through savings. The £500 target is the amount I need for company to allow me to work in the hospital where I will be helping 9-5 Monday to Friday and includes the money given to the family that are letting me stay with them for 3 weeks - Lucky them! Any money i make in excess of this target will be donated to Ghana - SOS Medical and Social Centres. http://www.sos-medical-centres.org/africa/ghana.  Access to healthcare in Ghana has improved dramatically since the introduction of the National Health Insurance Act in 2003. However, the healthcare system in Ghana still faces a number of challenges, particularly in rural areas. The large majority of patients arrive due to illnesses related to poor sanitation. Malaria is also a huge issue and remains the cause of many deaths and illnesses. In addition, HIV/AIDS continues to harm the lives of so many Ghanaians. Many of the major causes of death and serious illness are avoidable. The work of the healthcare system in Ghana is not only to treat immediate cases but also educate the local communities in preventative measures.
