Medical Trip to Ghana

Hi Everyone! For those of you who don't know what I've been up to lately, I am currently finishing up classes at the University of South Carolina for the summer, then will have earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Marine Science, while also completing the course requirements for a pre-PA pathway. I am looking to celebrate this accomplishment by immersing myself into a volunteering program in Ghana, Africa that will better my understanding of a medically underserved, rural international environment. This is something I have wanted to do for years and I am thrilled to have been accepted into a program for this that gives me this opportunity.

The Medical project is through a well-established program called International Volunteer HQ. The program that I would be participating in aims to help small, rural communities in Ghana that are deprived of access to basic healthcare and essential medicines. There is a shortage of trained medical professionals that work in these communities and there is a constant demand for people that are able to assist these people. During my time in Africa, I will be placed in a smaller, rural clinic and I will be working directly with the local staff with providing the community as much medical assistance as I can. This organization provides hands-on, eye-opening learning experience that fosters authentic connections between the volunteers and the members of the community. This experience will provide me with invaluable knowledge of another culture and I can't think of any other post grad trip that would be more rewarding than this one.

Being a college student for the past four years, I am not in the best position financially to make this trip happen. Although the program provides living accommodations, I have to pay for my flight, travel insurance, vaccinations, background check, transportation to and from the airport, and any money for food and other necessities while I am there. I will be fundraising as much as possible until I plan on departing for the trip on August 1st, 2019. This trip is truly an experience I dream about and any donation at all would be the best graduation present I could ask for.
