Medical supplies for Greek hospitals (Update: 3D printed medical masks)

UPDATE 1

After contacting the Greek Embassy, the materials will be included in the AEGEAN cargo flights that transfer medical material and donations to Greece. Shipping will be for free, so more masks to be purchased!!! As all donations will cover exclusively the purchase cost, the number of masks to be purchased will be significantly higher!!!

UPDATE 2

After several reports that medical supplies exported from China vary in quality, we have decided to manufacture and donate open source face shields [Prusa Protective Face Shield - RC3]. In this way, we can control 100% the quality of the protective equipment. We have already placed the order for 1000 pieces, which will be ready in 7 days. At the end of the campaign, we will place a second order using the amount of the campaign donations as well the additional amount of the offline donations.

Currently Greece is at the first stages of the COVID-19 outbreak with new cases appearing daily. People tested for the virus in Greece are ­–as of 22nd of March– only few hundreds daily. In both Italy and Wuhan, doctors and health care providers were infected at the first stages of the virus. It is important to protect our medical staff, so that they can continue to contribute efficiently to the treatment of the patients.

Currently the supplies of the Greek health system in personal protective equipment are very low. We have contacted the Greek National Organization for Medicines (EOF), who identified and specified their needs and stated that they will certainly accept our donation.

The initiator of the campaign is a Greek who has been working in Shenzhen, China, for the last 10 years.

Having knowledge of the Chinese market and direct access to it, we have found immediate supply of the requested material in China. Our aim is to support the Greek health system by providing personal protective equipment, specifically goggles, masks and specialized medical protective suits. Those supplies will help Greek health providers for a short period of time, until big companies are able to import the necessary quantities and fully supply all the medical facilities of the healthcare system.

As Greeks living and working abroad we feel it is our duty to help our country in these difficult times. We will donate, of course, on our own and we are already collecting donations from friends and family in China and abroad. All donations will cover the cost for purchasing this material and for sending them to Greece by air.

For the moment, we have found protective suits for 23.3 USD, goggles for 2.9 USD and KN95 masks for 1.4 USD, and we are working on getting even better prices. Given the fact that medical suits and masks can only be used once, we need to provide a sufficient number of them, so that the medical staff is adequately protected during these critical times. Important notice: All donations will go to the account of the company “Microchina Co LTD”, owned by the initiator of the campaign, who will purchase the material. All the details about the material purchased and shipped will be shared via the tools that this platform provides.
