Medical School Funding

I am Dave a 20 year old Asian male, hoping to study medicine in Grenada, St George university in a 7 year M.D program and to practice in United States of America in my residency years. I come from a finance diploma from a local polytechnic and have recently decided to make a switch from Singapore Management University (due to start 2020) to Medicine overseas.

I have always wanted to be a doctor ever since the accident, where I hurt my back in a taekwondo competition. I suffer from herniated disc in my cervical and lumbar spine which is pressing on my central nervous system. I have undergone cervical surgery in 2016. While it is not life threatening, the symptoms have plagued me and changed my life. I am unable to stand or sit for prolong period. This means that I am constantly in pain, even basic day to day activities such as taking a bus can be a constant struggle for me. The reason why I want to be a doctor, is that I am fed up of the healthcare symptoms, how often I have been neglected and brush aside just because my condition is non life threatening.

I personally understand how difficult it is for patients to cope with symptoms, financial and psychological strains even if it is from a simple condition.

While most people will op for a more glamorous better paid job of being in a urban area to practice medicine, I have decided to dedicate my time and effort in a small community to build strong ties with the locals, offering support and love beyond what is needed from a doctor job scope. A smaller area will allow me to know patients’ conditions and struggle, giving me a chance act upon even in the smallest of ways such as regular house visits to elderly, patients who lack mobility, giving subsided or free healthcare to the poorer families.

I want to be the doctor that understands how tough a situation maybe, regardless of medical severity. I want to make sure people never have to be in the same situation that I have been.

Everything I mentioned above is pointless, the simple truth is that I do not have sufficient funds. I am doing a crowd sourcing in hopes to fund my dreams. I want to make a difference for the people of the community. Every dollar count, I thank you so much for reading this post and understanding my plight and plea.
