Medical Missions Trip in Zambia

Thank you for coming to my fundraising page! My name is Stephanie Hughes and I am a Registered Nurse from Northern California traveling to Livingstone, Zambia to assist with medical needs. In my younger 20's I attended a Missions Trip with my church to Mexico where we built a new home for a family that was living in a "house" made of cardboard, tin, and wood. I remember thinking, "what am I doing here? I have zero skills to actually help this family.There are so many people more qualified for this than myself."

Now that I am a nurse I finally have a skillset that will genuinely help people who truly NEED it. In the United States we have 24 physicians per 10,000 people. In Zambia, they have 1.7 physicians per 10,1000 people. Basically- there are a lot of sick and hurt people with no one to help them.

This is not a paid trip. In fact, I am paying around $5,000 of my own money to do this. But it is something I feel called to do and I hope this is the first of many trips to Zambia for me. I am partnered with a company called IVHQ, International Volunteer Headquarters who have been working in Zambia years. Any money raised will go towards protective personal equipment for myself, my accommodations at the volunteer house, and my flight from California to Zambia.
