Campaign Story
Please let me share the tale of my long and difficult journey as I continue on the road looking for a chance to breathe without the use of medications and machinery:
Back in October of 2000,while adding chemicals to our hot tub, I began to struggle for air. Upon being resesitated, including having my heart restarted twice, I was diagnosed with lung burns and emphysema. The doctors at the time predicted my life expectancy to be about 8 years. Fast forward to spring of 2008 when my wife and I met with the transplant doctors at UWM in Madison,WI where I was tested for a rare genetic disorder called Alpha 1 antitription deficiency. Months later we got the news that along with the emphysema I was also positive for the most severe form of this unheard of disease. For nearly 10 years beyond what the original Doctors prediction suggested, I have had weekly infusions to slow the Alpha 1 for which there is no known cure. I have now reached the point that with very limited lung capacity my only option to survive hinges on a double lung transplant. With the support of my family and friends I ask you to consider joining my fight as we refuse to surrender to this disease
