Our Head of the Family, Alfredo Ursua has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer back in 2010. This started with a simple gastritis, until it became serious that he needed to go through series of Endoscopy and Colonoscopy until an Oncoogist confirmed he has Stage 3 colorectal cancer, surgery was performed, they needed to cut the intestines as it did have a mass and blood clot in it. He now have colostomi bag which costs about Php 316 every week. Or whenever there is a need to change.
In the past years, we were still able to manage his treatments and medications. Chemotherapy sessions, radiation therapies, herbal medicines and so on. This helped a lot bringing his cancer cell count down and was diagnosed to have stage 2 after a year of treatment.
He was okay for 2 years. Although at that time finances were almost exhausted. It was 2015 when he started feeling series of dizziness again, body malaise and can barely eat. He was hospitalized again and underwent couple of tests, ICU, blood transfusion and needed to stay in a hospital in Mlang North Cotabato for a few days. Medications still ongoing.
Just a few months back, he was brought to the hospital again as he had some bleeding in the stomach and severe headache. He was scheduled for endoscopy again to know where the bleeding was coming from, and CT SCAN for his headaches. Cancer getting worse plus he needs operation on his left ear that has been causing the throbbing headaches. He had blood tranfusion again as he lost a huge amount of blood.
He has been skipping his medications and tests needed as finances are really tight now. My Dad's medical aid will not cover the new chemotherapy drug that could help extend his life by years, and the cost of this treatment on an ongoing basis, is extensive.
This appeal goes out to everyone worldwide, but in particular those who know how hardworking my Father was before he got sick. To those who has known and worked with him, this campaign is solely my initiative, as my Dad is too shy to ask for financial help. However, it is clear that these unexpected costs will cripple any financial reserves he may have built up, and also render his family bereft of any financial security in the uncertain future.
I also thought about doing this as my father lives in a very unsecure environment in North Cotabato. He does his day to day living in a place where terrorists are and unsure whether tomorrow he will still be alive. He lives alone with his 14 yr old child away from the city. We would like to bring him back to Manila so he can get the best medical help here and to also secure him in a place where someone can take care of him fully and provide him a better space. A plane ticket would cost about 10k the last time we checked from there to Manila.
We have exhausted all of our funds and resources as the medical bills have increased to greater cost. That is why we need YOUR kind and gentle hearts to Give Love for Freddie. We will graciously accept and appreciate any amount and prayer that you can give to our Dad. May God Bless Us All.
