More Info

On October 25, 2015 my sister Kristi and her husband Ray welcomed their first child Jaxon Ray Broom into this world. After a complicated pregnancy Jaxon was born at 24 weeks weighing 1 lb. 15. oz. Since his early arrival Jaxon has faced numerous challenges; the most concerning being his underdeveloped lungs. He has Chronic Lung Disease and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) which have required long-term intubation followed by a tracheostomy. The tracheostomy will remain in for an undetermined amount of time.

In his short life Jaxon has lived in three hospitals. During his stay at Rush Copley Jaxon underwent 5 surgeries; 3 abdominal surgeries, eye surgery and heart surgery. At four months Jaxon developed Pulmonary Hypertension which required him to be transferred to Lutheran General. While at Lutheran General Jaxon faced further complications with his heart and lungs; there he had two more surgeries, one being the tracheostomy. At 8 months Jaxon was transferred to Lurie Children's hospital in Chicago where he resides today. He now weighs 16 lbs. and continues to make strides. His discharge date is still unknown as he still has many obstacles to overcome.

When Jaxon is able to come home he will need extensive nursing care, specialized care from doctors and will require home ventilation.
