Jamir is an Amazing 8 year old boy. He loves video games, baseball, basketball, reading, playing with his brothers, spending time with his mom, and most importantly enjoying a good meal :). Yes I think that’s his favorite part of the day. He really likes eating ribs and cookies :)
Things have been pretty routine for Jamir until this past Easter (April 3rd 2015) when his mother discovered a large firm mass on his chest while trying on his Easter suit. At that point my sister believed this mass to be a harmless cyst. Unfortunately when she took Jamir to the hospital, before the end of the night, they suspected he had cancer and he was transferred to another hospital. For the next week many test were run, Jamir stayed in good spirits, his mom managed to keep things afloat at home with her other 3 children , and friends and family visited and shared words of support.
It was hard for doctors to identify the source because there were masses by his lungs and kidneys. Before the end of the week Jamir’s cancer received a name and stage, Stage 4 Wilm’s Tumor. Wilm’s Tumor is a rare kidney cancer. After the identification of the type of cancer a plan was created by the doctors for Jamir to do chemotherapy to reduce the tumor size. Thus far he has completed 5 chemotherapy sessions. Soon he will be evaluated for surgery to remove his kidney and the tumors, which can begin to spread if they aren’t removed.
During this process and after the removal of the tumor Jamir is being home schooled. Jamir has a weakened immune system which requires him to be in germ free environment. My sister is in the process of trying to create a play area in her home for Jamir that will reduce his exposure to germs.
Jamir has been an outstanding champion through this all, with a bright smile and warm hugs. His mother has been his biggest cheerleader, coach, and comforter. She has been strong beyond measures as a single mom to manage to raise her other 3 children (ages 13, 3, and 1) and be with Jamir through this process in his life.
Through this page I want to create an avenue for others to send motivating words to help strengthen my sister mentally and emotionally during this process and to help raise money to assist with Jamir’s medical cost.
Please donate whatever you can to help my nephew and sister.
