my name is Boris and I am a med student form Prague, Czech Republic. I am in fourth year of my study. In my future medical career (hopefully) I would love to serve as a doctor in these parts of world that suffer from a lack of medical care. Thus I am keen to get as much of experience of practising medicine in that kind of condition as possible just during my med studies. This is the reason why I asked couple of hospitals and NGOs to serve with them as a med student volunteer and I was lucky to be approved for 1 moth stay by couple of them. I decided to take an advantege to serve as a volunteer in Uganda in Whisper’s Magical Children Hospital. I would like to go there in the middle of June 2020 and stay there for 1 month.
In Whisper’s Magical Children Hospital I would assist to medical staff providing health care to children and their mothers. I would also participate on medical care in rural areas. Most of the recipients of my intership and your donations would be children and their mothers in that part of world where medical care of the standard that we know is a rare goods.
That will not be my first experience with volunteering in Africa. Before my medical studies I used to work as a hydrogeologist for 6 years. During that period I used to voluntarily work in South Sudan where we did a hydraulic testing of several water supply boreholes in Bentiu and Wau refugee camps. Before that great experience I also voluntarily remotely supported (in my spare time, from my home) the field team of hydrogeologists working in South Sudan, Malawi and Uganda. I did the analyses of the data for them. I would like to build on these experience as a med student and hopefully a doctor in the future. You can see some pictures from my South Sudan mission together with pictures of Whisper’s Magical Children Hospital in my fundraising campaign.
My path to become a doctor is gradual. In the first year of my studies I worked as a personal assistant for people with combined disability, both mental and physical. In second year of my studies I started to work as an helping power at operatin halls of top Czech heart surgery clinic IKEM. In third year of my studies I started to work as an nurse in the ambulance of physician so I hope that volunteering misson will be next step of that path. In my spare time I am trying to gain as much of practical experience as it is possible so I voluntarily serve night shift at Clinics of reconstruction surgery of our university hospital where I assisst during the traumatological operations and Clinics of gynecology and obstetrics where I assisst during the deliveries.
So I would kindly like to ask you for donating my volunteering and the hospital as well. I am asking you to help me to cover the cost of my vaccination and antimalarial prophylaxis.
