About two years ago (age 40) I learned that I had suffered violent abuse as a kid.  I had blocked this abuse out of my mind and discovered it when I had a series of flashbacks during a stressful time in my life.  After some professional attention and a lot of work on my own I now understand that this abuse was the cause of less than progressive behavior throughout my life.

This process left me feeling very empowered.  It's kind of like being born again, not in a religious sense but it's like having a second chance at life inside a new person that isn't bogged down by the negativity you had come to know as normal everyday life.  It's like shedding a thick, heavy skin and feeling free of it.

As part of this process I am trying to do something I thought I could never do - go to school.  I decided a year ago that I want to go to medical school.  I now have a year of classes under my belt and need about one more to complete the requirements and get my undergraduate degree in biological sciences.  I have been going full-time year round.

The problem I'm running into is that because of labs scattered throughout the day and the amount of studying I have to do, it's very difficult to find a job that will work with my schedule. My savings have dried up and there is little hope for me to continue with school after this summer session is over.  Loans available to me cap out at about $10,000, not even enough to cover a full year's tuition.  I am also too old for most of the scholarships out there.

I feel like some really bad people took away the first half of my life and now that the second half is mine, I can't afford to accomplish my goals. This is why I’m appealing to the Go Get Funding community. After my own resources, I will need about $20,000 to keep myself in school until med school starts. Once in med school, loans will be easier to come by.  I’ve confirmed that with doctors and students alike.

I want to do this anonymously because I don’t want the details about my past to haunt me during my professional career. The best I can do is to post a copy of my transcript so you can see what you’re helping to achieve.  Currently, my goals are neurosurgery and remyelinization research.  I will certainly dedicate some portion of my professional career to less fortunate people who need the kind of medical attention I will be able to offer.

Rewards

All that I can offer to people who help me are updates on my grades when they come out so they can see what they are helping to accomplish.
