I am writing about our mutual friend, Mechelle Caindoy, Country Manager for Philippines who was severely affected by Super Typhoon Rai. The Rai (locally known as Odette) hit the country on 16 December 2021 and Mechelle and her family in Cebu managed to survive, but they are facing the hardship with no electricity, no water, no Wi-Fi, no telecom signal since.
We became to know about her situations when she managed to get the phone connected at mall where people need to wait a long queue to get power charged and connected.
With the limited access, she reported that the possible restoration of power and internet outages is scheduled for February. Prioritized hospitals and medical clinics have been energized already and mobile signals have been restored but only to limited areas. Still no electricity and internet overall while the disaster accelerates the speed of Omicron spread.
She spent Christmas, her baby's first birthday on 28 December and new year with no lights. The devastation caused by the typhoon is beyond our imagination as far as we know through photos and videos. The worst part is that we know Mechelle is there fighting for herself and her family.
I would like to deliver Mechelle our thoughts and gestures. This is not something I can do alone - please join me to raise donations (every penny counts) direct to Mechelle to help support and bring a smile back on her face.
