Friends and family, my dear friend and her daughter have just lost their husband/father to cancer right before the holidays. Beyond their emotional devastation, their economic future is now in a precarious state. Please, help make sure that Maya can continue her musical education and pursue her dreams.

Maya is a smart and kind thirteen year old who touches the heart of everyone who is lucky enough to meet her. She follows in her father’s footsteps in her love of the arts, her creativity, and work ethic. Currently, Maya is in 8th grade and attends public middle school through a merit based accelerated program.

Through her father’s struggles with his health, and the covid pandemic raging on, Maya still continued working tirelessly to maintain her grades—even waking up at 3 am daily, to have enough time to study, practice her music, and somehow also manage to self teach herself high school level math, science, and social studies—when the limitations of remote school instruction proved too vast. All this to ensure her admittance into a good high school, and then a great college, so to not be a financial burden to her parents, and make them proud. If given the chance, Maya aspires to be a composer of music one day, or perhaps follow her father’s lead in the visual arts, as an architect or design engineer.

In his last days, Leonardo’s biggest growing concern was that Maya would be able to pursue all her dreams, see her hard work pay off, and continue her dedicated music training into high school and eventually while attending her dream university.

As a beloved teacher, Anna works tirelessly, but her humble educator’s salary is simply not enough to cover the costs of what used to be a two income household. Outside of covering basic home expenses and utility costs, there is simply not enough to for anything extra or to save for Maya’s college.

During such difficult times, it only takes reading and sharing this fundraiser to help secure Maya’s future. When possible, any contributions are greatly appreciated and we are forever grateful for the incredible love, support, and generosity from you all. More than anything, thank you for showing Maya that hard work pays off & dreams can come true.
