Max’s Treatments

Max is less than one year old and already has severe hip dysplasia in both hips. One of his hips is almost completely out of the socket. We want to do everything we can to give him a long and fun life as a puppy in our family. He is so big that even though he is skinny, he puts a very large load on his joints. Since he puts such a large load on his joints and the dysplasia is so severe, simple supplements and gentle exercise will not keep him out of pain. As he walks or plays it agitates the joint, as that happens the bone starts to build up to make up for the joint problem. This would cause bone on bone contact with every movement. Once the bone builds up he will be in such unbearable pain that we will have to put him down. Hip replacement surgery could fix this. Unfortunately hip replacement surgery is completely out of the budget as it would cost $12,000 when all is said and done. Unlike with people, animals can be turned down for care when it is not affordable. It makes this whole situation that much more difficult when all we want is to see him full of life and playing again. We have to turn to alternatives to keep him comfortable and prolong his life with a high quality of life for as long as possible.The alternatives are also very costly and out of budget. He will have to be on pain pills for the rest of his life which is one cost plus nutritional supplements intended to slow the bone growth and help prevent the bone on bone contact as long as possible. All the therapies needed to keep his muscles strong and keep him pain free are very costly too. In order to keep him out of pain and allow him to be the fun goofy puppy we know him to be, we need help.
