I am a 20 year old Environmental Sciences Student at the University of Ottawa wishing to partake in a project this summer to better understand the marine resources of the island of Beqa (located in Fiji). I will work with a team to conduct scientific baseline data surveys of reef areas, mapping the sea grass beds and mangrove fringes of the region.

The goal is to identify patterns of resource usage and work with local communities can begin to build awareness of the value and vulnerability of their marine environment.

The acquired information will then be used to design and implement management plans for the future protection of Beqa island and lagoon marine ecosystems.

I wish to use this opportunity as a stepping stone in my career to be able to one day work for some of the world's largest marine conservation organisations.

As a full time student, it is very challenging to juggle the expenses school tuition, rent, food, work and be able to participate in projects such as these - therefore any donation will be very appreciated!!!

I will be recording my trip to be able to make a movie-type video of my adventures, the project, what I've learned, and what we need to work on in the future. The video will then be uploaded to my Youtube channel UncoveringEarth.

Thank you all!
