Matabeleland will attend the World Football Cup to be held in LONDON 2018 organized by the Confederacy of Independent Football Associations(CONIFA). 2018 being the year Matabeleland looks forward to sending a strong select squad for the World Cup. The Matabeleland Select nicknamed Ingqungqulu ZikaMthwakazi (The Eagles of Matabeleland) needs resources to prepare and to get to London for the World Football Cup.The Team is now looking for $35000 for Air Tickets and Visas for the whole squad. The Select is managed by the Matabeleland Football Confederacy (MFC). In the last 8 months MFC has been organizing and mobilizing soccer loving communities in Matabeleland with an aim to start a developmental League for the Matabeleland peoples. MFC seeks to use soccer for Peace Building, Restorative Justice Hope and the Transformation of the Matabeleland people.
The Matabeleland select team will join the other 15 teams that will play in London next year. The teams include Barawa, Kabylia, Tibet, Tamil Eelam, and United Koreans of japan, Panjab, Abkhazia, Padania, Northern Cyprus, Western Armenia, Ellan Vanin, Felvidek, Szekely Land, Cascadia and Kiribati.
The Administrative Agent of the MFC Project is Save Matabeleland Coalition.(SAMACO), an initiative that brings together partners across the region of Matabeleland through networking and coordinating grassroots organizations around local democratic and civic participation for socio economic transformation and restoration of fundamental freedoms and human rights using the principles of democracy as a means to that end. Save Matabeleland Coalition was set up in 2013 and registered as a trust in 2014 by a coalition of 10 of peace loving organizations and entities looking to intervene in the Matabeleland Crisis through Sustainable Solutions
