This is Baby Mary Acelle Jane, she was born on January 28, 2019, via C-section at the Iloilo Mission Hospital, Mission Road, Iloilo City, Iloilo, Philippines. She has Gastroschisis. She had to be born on a higher facilitated hospital because there is 0% reported survival rate of gastroschisis babies at the hospitals around their hometown in Roxas City, Province of Capiz (a 2 and a half hour ride away from Iloilo City).

Gastroschisis is a birth defect of the abdominal wall. Her intestines are stuck outside of her body through a hole beside the belly button. Gastroschisis needs an immediate surgical treatment upon birth and it requires a series of surgical treatments. The frequency of the surgery depends on the severity of the case and it requires thorough medical attention.

In her case, she also had a part of her stomach outside. The moment she was out of her mother, she was violet in color as described by the doctor, and the intestines were bigger than her size due to inflammation caused by the intake of her own wastes while inside the uterus. She weighed 1.7 kg for being born at 34 weeks (pre-term) and 31 weeks in size.

She is currently at the NICU of Iloilo Mission Hospital, as she had to be isolated to avoid infections and complications, and had to be manually resuscitated to help her breathe as to prevent her from fatigue. She is closely monitered inside the NICU. She is not allowed to have normal feeding until her bowels are doing well. All her nutrients and medicines came in through the IV.

Baby Acelle underwent her first major surgery on January 30, 2019, 2 days after she was born. That surgery was purposed for placing a silo (covering which were all improvised materials since the hospital here doesn't have proper available equipments - should be ordered from the U.S. as the doctor said) for the exposed intestines and part of the stomach, and the doctor told us that anytime her heart or lungs would stop working.

We just prayed and prayed and after a few days her heart and lungs improved. The nurses told us she had good heart and respiratory rate despite her condition.

She then had her second major operation after 2 weeks (February 14, 2019). This operation was for doctors to try to enclose the opening, and if not successful, they would just revise the silo, for a better version than the first one. They found out that there was a perforation (hole) in her intestines, where they attached a tube to act as an outlet for her body waste. They then made another better version of the improvised silo and stitched it to her skin to prevent it from displacement.
Her weight dropped from 1.7 kg down to 1.2 kg.

Few hours after her operation, the doctors decided to transfer her IV in the largest vein in her left leg to avoid displacement if the IV was in her arms. She undergone IV cutdown operation in her left foot.

Another 2 weeks passed, and everytime, as we take a look at the window, she is not gaining weight, and the doctor said she gained only 2 kilos in 2 weeks. Now she is 1.4 kg. The doctors then decided to have her 3rd operation, March 1, 2019, to check on her exposed organs, replace the improvised silo, and transfer the IV cutdown to her leg foot.

This operation was successful. However, the doctors found several addinm complications. Another two perforations (holes) were present, and the intestines adhered to each other. This was the effect of a medical condition called "meconium peritonitis" [refers to rupture of the bowel prior to birth, resulting in fetal stool (meconium) escaping into the surrounding space (peritoneum) leading to inflammation (peritonitis)].
The doctor closed one newly found perforation (hole) and attached a tube to the other two leading outside the body "hoping" to successfully serve as an outlet of her body wastes. Its functionality was to be observed days after the operation.

As of this time, what the doctors and nurses "could ONLY do" is to provide supportive management in the form of providing nutrients and antibiotics through the IV until such time that the intestines will separate from each other and also until she gains growth, fat, and skin that could cover up her exposed organs. Doctors said this would happen in a 50/50 chance.

This baby is a blessing from above. God gives us the opportunity to witness His miracle through this baby. Let us give her a chance to live and to have a normal and happy life. She is strong and fighting. Definitely a little warrior. Let us give her a chance to see how beautiful the world is. Let us show her how loved she is.

We are now empty handed because of her mom's pregnancy, medications, checkups, lab tests, and the CS delivery. That is why we are raising funds for this battle.

As of time of writing, (March 2, 2019), Baby Acelle's medicines, lab tests, blood needs, and special feeding already reached 200,000 pesos and, and her running bill at the moment is already about 200,000 pesos and everyday the amount in the hospital keeps growing as well as the everyday expenses for medicines, labs, blood needs, etc. Because of this, we are appealing to your kind hearts for financial help. A small amount will make a huge difference as no matter how small it is, will give her a chance to live the life given by God.

Prayers are powerful. Please say a little prayer for this wonderful child of God. God will just use the doctors and nurses, but only He can give complete healing and full recovery for this baby. We are already declaring that this baby will have a complete healing. And we are beyond blessed to be blessed by your prayers and generosity. We may not say how thankful we are, or give back your kindness right away, but God is surely seeing your pure heart, and He will surely bless you more than a million times.

"The greatest blessing in the world is being a blessing to others."

"A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed." Proverbs 11:25
