Homestudy Complete!

Dear Family and Friends,

We are happy to announce that with your help and encouragement, we

successfully completed our “home study" (see below for more info) and

have been legally approved to adopt anywhere in the United States!

Thank you so much for your generous contributions and kind words.

In the next few weeks, Morning Star Adoption Agency will place us on

their "Waiting Families" list, and we will prepare a profile that the

agency will share directly with prospective birth-parents. Then we wait

until a birth-parent chooses us. We may adopt a newborn within the next

month, or the process could take many months or even years.

We’ve been touched by the encouragement and financial support of our

friends and family. Without you, our home study and placement on the

agency's Waiting Families list would not be possible. We will be sure to

update this page as we continue in our adoption process

About the home study:

The home study is a screening process required by the state before

anyone is legally approved to adopt. In addition to meeting state

standards, each adoption agency also has its own unique requirements for

prospective adoptive parents, which the home study is meant to assess.

For our home study process, we first had to complete lots of paperwork,

fingerprinting, and background checks. Then we entertained several

lengthy visits to our home by a social worker. She interviewed us

(together and separately) about our strengths and weaknesses, our

relationship, our families and childhoods, our values and religion, our

professional aspirations, and our projected parenting styles(!). During

one visit, the social worker also took a thorough tour--clipboard in

hand-- of our house. (Needless to say, we did lots of cleaning before

that visit.) Although the home study process was exhausting, we enjoyed

it, and received great advice from our social worker. The home study

also helped jumpstart our "parental" thinking about everything from

daycare plans to life insurance to holiday traditions with our future

child.
