Mark Wilkinson Medical Fund

My Son, Mark Wilkinson, is 15 years old and has been diagnosed (3 to 4 years ago) with a rare disease called Hidrenditis Supprutiva. On a frequent basis (every several days) painful boils break out on his skin - underarms, groin area and hip area. These boils are very painful and burst on their own. In 2017 he had surgery under both of his armpits to remove the hair follicles because the Doctors considered that the hair in these areas caused a blockage of the sweat glands and needed to be removed to prevent further outbreaks. This did not achieve the desired result. Mark was then taken to a dermatologist who tried various treatments in 20017, 2018 and 2019 that did not work, ending recently with a very costly medicne called Humeira. The cost of this medicine is $1,500.00 per month. This, also is not working and has several unfavourable side effects. This medical situation causes Mark to be out of school a lot. He can hardly walk at times and is in so much pain. His classmates tease him and say that he has "a period like a girl" because of an incident when a boil burst in his groin area and blood was draining down his leg. He, as a result of this incident, does not want to go back to school. Teenagers can be very cruel.

The Doctors in the Bahamas have informed me and Mark that this disease is incurable. This may mean endless medical bills. Even though Mark has insurance which through his Father's job, which covers part of his medical bills, the Insurance does not help with other expenses like plane fare, hotel costs, rental car, some medical tests and I still have to come up my portion of the medical costs. If his Father ceases to be employed, then all medical coverage for Mark will cease.

I would like to take Mark to a Doctor or a Dermatologist in United States to, if possible, get a handle on Mark's condition and get whatever treatment can help him with this disease. I am an employee of the Bahamas Government and I make minimum wage. I am not in a position at this time to afford the medical cost to take Mark to the United States nor pay my portion of the expenses for any necessary medical treatment.
