Marie-Therese Jean-Pierre School Fund

The Caribbean Baptist Mission Society and Bread of the World Ministries need your help to transform the country of Haiti through education with a donation to the Marie-Therese Jean Pierre education fund. The little Caribbean country of Haiti is not only the poorest country in the western hemisphere it is also the least educated country in the western hemisphere. Haiti’s literacy rate is at 61% as compared to 92% for all other Caribbean nations. Haiti’s education index number is .4; that's 200 out of 215 countries measured. Fifty percent of the children in Haiti do not attend school and in the rural areas that percentage is much higher. Ninety percent of the schools in Haiti are privately run and a majority of those schools require tuition that prohibits most families from providing their children with an education. (Fifty-nine percent of the population live on less than $2 per day and two-thirds of the population’s labor force do not have formal jobs.) To make matters worse, Haiti is suffering from skyrocketing inflation (from 6% inflation in 2010 growing to over 14% as of January 2016.)

The Marie-Therese Jean-Pierre Schools are providing a tuition free education for 650 children in three rural communities today (Devarieux, Terre Blanche, and Saint Marc). All funding for the school comes from private donations. The Marie-Therese Jean-Pierre Schools needs to hire more qualified teachers and is in desperate need for supplies and safe facilities in order to educate more children. We need to add grade levels to two of the schools and also start new schools in the villages of Mare-Mirande and Terre Longe. The cost to add one grade level is $1000 per year.

100% of all funds received are tax deductible and will go directly to the support of the schools in Haiti through the Caribbean Baptist Mission Society (CBMS) in partnership with Bread of the World Ministries (BWM). CBMS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been working in Haiti for 23 years
