My son Jorge's situation is one of life and death! He has been on dialysis 3 times a week at state hospital Albert Luthuli for over a year now. However three weeks ago the hospital's administration decided that he wouldn't qualify for a kidney transplant due to a slight narrowing of his carotid arteries, in spite of the report clearly stating that there is normal blood flow. For this reason they see this as a waste of their resources and promptly excluded him from their renal program to give his space to a new patient.

For people like him with no means to pay for private care, this only has one ending,,, a slow, painful death at home from blood poisoning! This, because this hospital's decision applies to all State hospitals in the province and the few private renal centers offering reduced rates have such long waiting lists, that it is almost impossible to get in before their health is totally compromised.

During this last year we've seen this happen to a countless number of patients, who were just sent home to die, because they couldn't afford private medical care. This policy is inhumane and cruel and it shouldn't be allowed to continue.

In Jorge's case it is even more horrific because in two month's time his Medical Aid kicks in and he will have access to the renal unit at the Hillcrest hospital, all expenses paid.

So, my plea is... Please help me save my son''s life by donating all you can afford, doesn't matter how much, to help us pay for private dialysis for the next two months, which at R1500 a session will amount to R36.000.

Your generosity will help create the miracle that he needs.
