Our little warrior, Maria Gabriella "Gabbi" was due on June 1, 2018 but was born 13 weeks early last February 25, 2018 weighing 520 grams and 11.5 inches long.

During pregnancy Rasie (mother) suffered from chronic hypertensive vascular disease with superimposed preeclampsia that turned into partial HELLP syndrome (a life threatening complication to preeclampsia) with complications to the kidney and thyroid.

Baby Gabbi has been a fighter; battling infections, respiratory distress syndrome, broncho-pulmonary dysplasia, bilateral intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) grade 2, periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) grade 3, retinopathy of prematurity and low platelet.

Baby Gabbi has been in the NICU since birth and has to stay for a month or two until she would weigh 1.7kg. Monitoring of her Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is done once a week to assess the severity and treatment if surgery is needed.

For all the treatment baby Gabbi received, hospital bill is currently amounting to 1.2 million pesos. As a single mom, Rasie is striving to balance her time between work and to be by Gabbi's side.

After discharge, a year long follow up is needed to assess her progress. Since she was diagnosed with Periventicular Leukomalacia (PVL) that causes developmental delays, she was referred to a neurologist for close monitoring, and will later on undergo rehabilitation (occupational therapy, physical therapy, Speech therapy) for early intervention.
