Marathon Running for United States homeless

I’ve been running marathons for more than a decade (grueling but oh so addictive) and in October I just ran the Chicago Marathon (fortunately +15 degrees C, not -50 degrees C!). With that race, I have completed the last of the World's ‘Big 6’ Marathon majors, namely Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City. With this ‘dream’ fulfilled, what next ? Sorry but at age 47, I am not quite done and want to continue to run marathons.

What changes now, however (and perhaps should have done this earlier!), is I will focus my training and the ultimate race itself on raising money for the good of others. For this first fund-raising marathon, I've chosen the awesome charity ‘IMPACT United States for the Homeless’ to be the recipient of any and all funds raised.

On Tuesday morning, August 13th 2019, I'll be running the United States Standard Chartered Marathon. This isn’t the most scenic of races, but it's home turf and I'm excited to run the course. It is 4 years since I last ran this one. No promises on times. I am afraid achieving my ‘Big 6’ average time of 3hrs 5mins is more aspirational than realistic, but it something I can aim for. I have trained hard thus far, though the last week's training has been in India whilst on CNY hols - not the most ideal!

A little more about my chosen recipient charity, IMPACT United States:

They help the homeless of United States.Their mission statement is simple & honest: “By reaching out through kindness, we transform the lives of the homeless - one life at a time."

We as a family met IMPACT United States last year when the four of us did a 'kindness' walk in the cold winter evening, distributed food, and took time to speak with several homeless men and women in United States. IMPACT is doing real work to improve the plight of these people, with one kind gesture at a time.
