Marathon for Hope & Home, Nepal

Hello everyone,

I recently decided to challenge myself by getting completely out of my comfort zone, and doing things I always dreamt of doing, but never truly thought I could do. In the next few months I will complete a marathon, trek to Everest Base Camp, and finally, volunteer at an orphanage in Nepal for a month.

To raise money for the costs of volunteering in Nepal and supplies for the children, I am asking friends, family, and anyone interested in the cause, to sponser my participation in the Dual Marathon I run on the 23rd of March 2013 - in less than a month.

I will be volunteering from the 15th of May 2013 and because this is a time when monsoon season starts, it is a time when volunteers are needed the most. All funds raised will go towards supplies for the children such as lice shampoo, and to a local Nepali family who will provide me with a place to stay and food.

Many of the children have been rescued from poverty or child trafficking, and I will spend my time as a big sister to the children helping with their homework, and hygiene routines for example. I will also help with the general chores of the orphanage. Orphanages in Nepal have no funding from the government, so any extra supplies and hands are much appreciated.

The organisation I have chosen to volunteer with, after extensive research, is IVHQ (http://www.volunteerhq.org/). They have linked me with Hope & Home (https://www.facebook.com/hopenhome) who place volunteers in orphanages in Nepal where they are needed most. Because of this, until I arrive in Nepal I will not know where I will be volunteering - it will be determined at the time to ensure I am placed where I can contribute the most.

The fundraising page will be available after the marathon, and will expire on the 22nd of April 2013, a few days before my departure from Nepal.
